Singh, the then Reader at Rohilkhand University, Bareilly (U.P.). Regarding his research work he says - "Along with the development of the caste system in India the concept of Intercaste Marriages came into existence. Initially it was not taboo. Later restrictions were imposed. These were initially not strict and many relaxations were allowed keeping societal hierarchy in mind. However, restrictions became harder with the passage of time and at one stage Intercaste Marriages were almost stopped with the arrival of the medieval age. Intercaste marriages started again in India as an effect of Western Education.Yet the stranglehold of caste has been strong and it is somewhat slackening only now in India. In my research work I've analysed these developments elaborately in historical context regarding Anct. India."
